For an entire player base who’s only mission is to catch them all, it’s no surprise that on the 25th of Feb, when trademarks and logos for the games titled “Pokémon Sun” and “Pokémon Moon,” we made, Pokéfans connected the dots and figured that something huge was coming up, especially since a Nintendo Direct was scheduled for broadcast on the 26th, the day before the official 20th anniversary of Pokémon.
Lo and behold, on this broadcast (the video above if you missed it) there will be a new Pokémon title coming to Nintendo’s handheld this winter!
While scant details have been revealed, what’s known so far are the following details:
Pokémon Sun and Moon will be considered to the the next generation for core Pokémon games which includes brand new Pokémon and a brand new world.
With Pokémon Bank functionality, Pokémon from X, Y, Omega Ruby, and Alpha Sapphire can be transferred.
Pokémon from the Generation I Virtual Console games can also be transferred via Pokémon Bank.
Like the Generation VI core titles, gameplay will be in 2D and 3D.
For the first time, Pokémon will be available in 9 Languages: Japanese, English, German, Italian, Spanish, Korean, Traditional Chinese, and Simplified Chinese.
Once we have more news, we’ll be sure to update everyone – in the meantime, pre-orders for the US and JPN region versions for both Sun and Moon are now open with EU region versions coming soon. What a time to be alive! Happy Birthday Pokémon!
